WGI - President
David Wantman, PE, is president of WGI, the firm founded by his family in 1972. He easily stepped into the role, having a lifetime of understanding the intricacies of running a multi-discipline engineering and consulting firm built on a strong set of values that call for spearheading the balance between exceeding the expectations of clients while cultivating the talents of WGI’s associates.
Wantman started in the business at age 13 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree at University of Florida – still a proud Gator to this day with a strong dedication to the school and, in particular, his support of its Engineering program.
Knowing he needed to gain knowledge in an environment outside the family business, he spent a decade at a large national engineering firm in Tampa. He returned to WGI in 1999 tempered by a wide variety of experiences, and took the helm of WGI in 2005, ready to aggressively lead the firm into the future, with a blueprint for success that includes both organic growth and three strategic acquisitions the last several years. Wantman is at the center of delivering every quality project on budget and on time, if not before. These are values he is passionate about and strives to instill in every one of the firm’s 350 associates.
Today, Wantman leads a firm with eight offices that specialize in Land Development/Municipal Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Surveying and Mapping, Subsurface Utility Engineering, Structures, Water Resources, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Sciences, Land Planning, and Creative Services. WGI is one of the biggest and best geospatial firms in the nation, ranking #23 in Point of Beginning Magazine’s list of “Top 100 Firm Awards 2015 for Surveying, Mapping and Geospatial Revenue”. WGI ranked #7 in the $25M and over category as a 2016 “Fast 50” Honoree from the South Florida Business Journal and rose to #1609 on the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in America. Also in 2016, WGI was ranked #253 on the ENR’s list of the Top 500 Design Firms in the world based on annual revenues.
